As 2014 draws to a close it is time to take a look back at the biggest news stories of the past twelve months in Alderley Edge and share some statistics with our readers.
During 2014 the alderleyedge.com web site has been visited nearly 400,000 times and generated a million page views!
Over the course of the year we've managed to publish over 625 articles and those articles have received 1516 reader comments.
Topics which appeared regularly in the news this year included parking problems in the village, the future of Heyes Lanes allotments, plans for the new medical centre and the future of Alderley Park - following the announcement by AstraZeneca last year that about 1,600 research and development roles will be relocated from Alderley Park by 2016.
2014 saw us welcome a number of new shops and businesses into the village including North West Air Ambulance charity shop, Caffè Nero, Meeks Shoes, Amber Vehicle Solutions, Atelier Bride, Hunter & Belle, barrecore, Clarkson of Cheshire, Lock & Parker and most recently Konak returned to its former owners and became Roka Turkish restaurant.
We also said goodbye to The Co-operative, which made way for a larger Waitrose supermarket, Alderley Balti, The Edge Interiors and The Wedding Shop which was established in Alderley Edge in 1994.
Additionally, we look forward to welcoming The Railway Cafe (pop-up restaurant and Gin Bar) and Tomfoolery at 34 (burger joint) both of which are expected to open in January 2015. Whilst the Panacea building still remains empty having been rebuilt after the bar and restaurant was destroyed by a massive fire on March 12th 2013.
