Alderley Edge School for Girls is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded the internationally recognised Eco-Schools Green Flag Award for 2025, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to sustainability and environmental education.
This prestigious accolade recognises the incredible efforts of Mrs Bennett, the school's devoted Forest School Leader, and the school's enthusiastic team of Eco Angels – a group of environmentally conscious pupils who have championed a wide range of green initiatives over the past year.
The Eco Angels' work has included developing biodiversity projects, launching effective recycling schemes, and raising awareness across the school community about sustainable living.
In addition to this achievement, the school is also excited to share that its Forest School is undergoing a £25,000 development, generously funded by the school's Parents and Friends Association (PFA). This investment reflects the school's commitment to providing high-quality outdoor learning opportunities for all pupils.
Work is already underway this summer to enhance the Forest School facilities in preparation for an official launch in September. New features will include a tarp shelter, a dedicated campfire area, wash stations, bespoke planters, and much more – all designed to enrich pupils' hands-on learning experiences in nature.
Mrs Bennett said: "It's been an incredible journey, and I'm so proud of what the Eco Angels have accomplished. The Green Flag Award is a symbol of our shared dedication to sustainability. With the exciting new developments to our Forest School, we're taking that commitment even further – giving the girls a space where they can connect with nature, grow in confidence, and lead the way in environmental stewardship."
The Eco-Schools Green Flag Award requires schools to follow a seven-step framework that encourages young people to take an active role in driving environmental change. Alderley Edge School for Girls has embraced this challenge with enthusiasm and purpose.
Mrs Caroline Wood, the school's headmistress, added: "Receiving the Green Flag is a fantastic achievement, and we are so proud of Mrs Bennett, our Eco Angels, and the wider school community. This reflects the values we hold dear – leadership, responsibility, and making a positive impact. The Forest School development will further strengthen our commitment to outdoor learning and sustainability."
With new initiatives already in the pipeline, Alderley Edge School for Girls is looking forward to an even greener future.
