World Cup medal for Edge's James Riley

Alderley Edge Hockey Club's James Riley has returned from representing England in the FIH Masters Hockey World Cup in Rotterdam with a bronze medal.

He was part of the squad that finished top of their group after victories against Ghana 13-1, Wales 9-1 and a 2-2 draw with Holland.

The quarter-final was a tricky tie against South Africa which England won 5-0. They then faced Australia in the semi-final and went down 4-3, despite taking an early lead. England then bounced back to beat Germany 3-2 in the bronze medal play-off.

James, who shared the goalkeeping duty throughout the nine day's, had a successful tournament on a personal level conceding just 3 goals.

"It was an unbelievable experience, representing your country, playing in such a top level competition facing Olympic medallists and getting to play against all the major hockey nations was something you can only dream of. I learnt a lot and hope to be able to pass on my experiences to my teammates" James commented.

England had a successful competition winning 4 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals in the 13 men's and ladies' competitions being held.
