Paul Berry has resigned as Headmaster of The Ryleys for personal reasons.

In a letter to parents, Chairman of Governors Tim Smith said "I am writing to advise you that, for personal reasons, Paul Berry has resigned, with immediate effect, from his post as Headmaster of The Ryleys School.

"We are fortunate that, in Claire Hamilton, the school has an able and experienced Deputy Head and she will be taking on the role as Head for an interim period whilst the Governors conduct a recruitment process to secure the services of a new Head for the school. You may rest assured that we will, in due course, appoint an individual capable of nurturing the long established traditions of the school and carrying it forward into the future.

"Claire has the support of teachers and staff around her, and I am sure you will give her your support as she steps into this new position.

"Please be assured that with the committed and dedicated team of teachers at The Ryleys, the schooling and education of your children will be unaffected by these changes."

Paul Berry took over as Headmaster in September 2012 following the retirement of Pat Barrett who had been at the school for 37 years, and spent 15 years as Headmaster.

Mr Berry's previous position was Deputy Head of S. Anselm's in Bakewell, a coeducational day and boarding school in the heart of the Peak District. He moved to Alderley Edge with his wife Jane and and their two children to take up the role.
