Thousands of free places for summer activities are now available to book online, for parents and carers of children eligible for income-related free school meals.
Cheshire East Council has worked together with local schools, childcare providers and community and voluntary organisations to provide a range of activities over the summer holidays, including sports, arts and crafts, baking, games and trips out.
The holiday activities and food programme (HAF) has been running since 2021 and is available to children aged 5 to 16, including those with special educational needs and disabilities – while including a nutritious meal for each participant.
Earlier this year the Department for Education announced that more than £200m would be provided to councils to keep HAF going for another year, offering a programme of activities until the end of 2026.
There are also limited spaces available to support children and young people who don't receive income-related free school meals but would benefit from the scheme. Examples could be supporting a child with a disability, or those supported by a social worker or other professional.
Parents and carers are advised to speak to their child's lead practitioner or social worker who can support their application.
Councillor Laura Crane, chair of Cheshire East Council's children and families committee, said: "The extension of funding for this scheme highlights the many benefits it brings to eligible children across Cheshire East, who will now continue to have the opportunity to have fun, learn a new skill, make new friends and receive a nutritious meal during the holidays at no extra cost.
"We're continuing to work closely with local providers, community and voluntary groups to make these activities the best that they can be to ensure that everyone who attends has a really enjoyable experience.
"Bookings are now open, so I'd urge eligible families to browse through our booking platform and secure their place on one of these fantastic sessions."
The range of sessions available throughout the summer half term can be found on the HAF booking platform.
