Alderley Edge Methodist Church is guaranteed to look stunning when they host their fifth Christmas Tree Festival in a couple of weeks time.

Visitors can admire a display of around 60 trees beautifully decorated by various local clubs, organisations, small businesses and individuals from around the area.

Judy Povey, church secretary, commented "The Christmas Tree Festival has become something of an annual event, which it is hoped will attract visitors from the local community and further afield as they come to view the array of Christmas Trees contributed and decorated by so many organisations and businesses from around the area.

"Alongside the trees, and the atmosphere created by the stalls, refreshments, music etc., there is time to sit and reflect on what Christmas truly means, perhaps adding a thought of Christmas past onto the Memory Tree, or remembering a loved one sadly no longer alive."

Judy added "Into the mix of the weekend are two special events – one is the visit of Marsden Silver Prize Band under the baton of Glyn Williams – and tickets are now available, but need to be reserved without delay. The other is the Carols Round the Trees on the Sunday afternoon, the opportunity for the community to come together, to sing carols, hear the Christmas Story, and to contribute to a collection which will be donated in part to the work of The Christie Hospital.

"The main purpose of the Festival is to raise further funds towards the outstanding balance still required in respect of the work carried out on the Church Spire."

A programme of events have been put together for the Festival, which will kick-off with a Lunchtime Concert on Friday, 6th Friday, featuring flutist Helen Wilson and harpist Elfair Dyer. Entrance will be £5, including entrance to the trees. Light lunches will available after the Concert which will remain open until 4pm.

The following day the Festival will feature musical interludes, including performances from the church music group Inspire and Chelford Handbell Ringers.

In the evening the brass band concert by Marsden Silver Prize Band will be conducted by Glyn Williams, who is well known and an acclaimed Euphonium Player with Foden's Band. Tickets for the concert, priced £12.50 are available from the Church Office on 01625 586713 or via [email protected].

On Sunday, 8th December, the Festival will come to a close with Carol Round the Trees, starting at 3pm. The proceeds from the weekend will go towards their Spire Fund.
