Hunt is on for the shepherd's sheep

Local retailers are working with Alderley Edge Methodist Church to organise a sheep hunt in the run up to Christmas.

To coincide with the Christmas Tree Festival, the 'Village Sheep Hunt' will take place over the weekend - from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th December.

About 20 knitted sheep will be hidden in shops around the village, each of which will be named by the shop and the challenge is for the children to find each one and collect their names.

Rev Ben Clowes, minister at the Methodist Church said "The basic premise is that one of the shepherds in the nativity story has lost his sheep and needs to find them before he can go to the manger scene and encouraging children to help find them".

Rev Clowes added "This is a fantastic event which has run successfully elsewhere in the country over the last couple of years. It has encouraged closer working between local traders and the churches as we prepare to celebrate Christmas."

Entry forms for the Village Sheep Hunt are available from Mr Simms Sweet Shop, priced at 50p, and every completed form delivered to the Christmas Tree Festival will receive a small prize, if they can find the sheep hidden amongst the trees!
