Cheshire East Council has "dropped their objections" to the Alderley Edge Farmer's Market being held at a local deli.

Having received complaints from residents of Lynton Lane, regarding disturbances, Cheshire East Council's Planning Enforcement Department made a visit to Aldeli towards the end of last year and informed the owner Stephen Higham that they needed planning permission to host the monthly farmer's market at their premises.

As a result the Alderley Edge Farmer's Market was cancelled in January, for the first time in 14 years. However, Aldeli has now been given the go ahead to host February's market.

Stephen Higham said "We have been in discussions with Cheshire East Council and they have dropped their objections to the monthly farmers market provided there is no further impact to local neighbourhood."

Organiser Christine Munro commented "We are really pleased that Stephen now has permission for us to have the market back again. The producers and farmers who have supported the market for so many years are delighted."

The Alderley Edge Farmer's Market moved to Aldeli in April last year, having previously been held at the Festival Hall. It will return to Aldeli on Sunday 10th February, from 10am.

Update: 2.38pm Tuesday 29th January

Cheshire East Council has just confirmed that whilst the organisers are not prohibited from running the farmer's market at Aldeli, they are still looking into this matter and a final decision has yet to be made about the requirement for planning permission.

A spokesman for Cheshire East Council said: "The Council, as the local planning authority, is investigating complaints regarding the operation of a farmers' market at Tower Garage, in Wilmslow Road, Alderley Edge, and whether planning permission is required for its continued operation.

"The need for planning permission is dependent on the number, frequency, duration, size and impact of the markets that are held. If a planning application is submitted, as a result of our investigation, there will be the due consultation with local residents and the parish council before a decision is made."

Great news. Why don't the residents/ resident who complained pop over next time it's on and enjoy some time browsing/buying/eating.
