King's students celebrate exceptional GCSE results

Brilliant young academics from Wilmslow and Alderley were flying high at the King's School as GCSE students opened their results' envelopes.

King's bucked the national trend as results continued to improve at the top Macclesfield school. Although national figures showed some grade deflation, at King's grades have been on the up and up, with a small but significant increase this year.

Some 60% of all grades were at 9 to 7 (A*/A) with a stunning 36% at 9/8 (A*) and a superb 80% of grades were at 9 to 6 (A*- B). A quarter of pupils achieved at least 9 x 9 - 7s (A*/A). 20 students achieved 10 x 9 to 7s (A*/A) and 70% of pupils got a 9/8 (A*) in at least one subject.

King's Prize winner for excellence and contribution to school life, Henry Gouge, 16, from Alderley Edge, got 5 grade 8s and 5 grade 7s. Cheshire netball star Esme Sutton, 16, from Wilmslow, got 3 grade 9s, 6 grade 8s and 1 grade 7 and is planning a career in the Law. Will Schofield, 16, from Wilmslow, got 7 grade 9s, 3 grade 8s and 1 grade 6 and wants to read Quantum Physics at university. Jessica Leslie, 16, from Alderley Edge, got 5 grade 8s, 3 grade 7s and 1 grade 6 and is to study Business, Economics and Geography in the King's Sixth Form.

Singer and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award holder, Ava Bygrave, 16, from Alderley Edge, got 4 grade 9s, 2 grade 8s, 1 grade 7 and 2 grade 6s and ultimately wants to read English at Exeter after taking her A Levels at King's.

Head of Foundation, Jason Slack, said: "We are incredibly proud of our Year 11 students. This excellent set of GCSE grades is the product of a huge amount of hard work from a talented group. These results continue the school's sustained upward trend for academic achievement in recent years. Through our supportive learning environment and excellent teaching, our students have achieved outstanding results while also developing more holistic characteristics such as leadership and resilience. I look forward to welcoming this cohort back into our Sixth Form, where I am confident they will continue to excel."
