This weekend's Alderley Edge Farmer's Market has been cancelled because of problems regarding planning permission.

Last month we reported that Aldeli will need to apply for planning permission to enable them to continue to host the monthly market at their premises.

In the meantime organiser Christine Munro approached Cheshire East Council requesting permission to move the market into the village centre this month but it wasn't possible to go through all the required procedures in time for this weekend's event.

This is the first time organiser Christine Munro has had to cancel an Alderley Edge Farmer's Market which has been running for 14 years.

She told alderleyedge.com "I asked Diane Smith if we could move to the village for this month but we have to go through highways, parish council and legal department in order to organise this and there isn't time because of the Christmas break so unfortunately I can't do anything other than cancel it."

Christine added "I am really sorry for the producers and customers that I have had to cancel it, and I have had some lovely comments from customers to say how much they like the market and will miss it. One lady said she was waiting for Sunday so she could stock up again and was really disappointed, and another said how much she loved Alderley market.

"I have been in touch with Diane Smith and I am hoping something can be resolved before the next market on 10th February."
