Following a request from a local resident, who was concerned about speeding on London Road, PCSO Jim Newns installed the Speed Indication Device (SID) to monitor the situation.
The SID was installed just past Panacea on the left hand side of the road, as you approach the station heading south, from Friday 23rd November to Monday 3rd December - recording the speed of passing vehicles.
During that period 36,894 vehicles were recorded, which were travelling at an average speed of 25.6 mph.
The findings showed that 10% of vehicles recorded were exceeding the speed limit, 13 of which exceeding 40 mph.
PCSO Jim Newns said "The SID is proving to be a very useful tool to ascertain where problematic speeding issues exist. London Road is a narrow road and these figures are an example of how cars can be percieved to be travelling more quickly than they actually are. I would, however, encourage people to be mindful of their speed, especially in a busy village centre.
"It was good to see that vehicles kept to approximatly 25mph, which allows a driver plenty of time to stop if required."

Here's what readers have had to say so far. Why not add your thoughts below.
In my opinion this is without doubt the most abused speed limit in the village and also an accident hot spot, with a fatality a few years back.
Plus the huge vehicles going over the railway bridge it should be 7.5 Ton limit
If he is a reader of this column, with a personalised Plate of *** **, he will be recognised in the future. So yes, 60 mph is easily possibe along this stretch.
