Hero Harry scores hat trick on debut

Harry Oakes, making his debut for Alderley Edge Under 13 A team, achieved a hat trick of wickets in his impressive two over spell against local rivals Mobberley.

Alderley Edge won the match by 172 runs after bowling Mobberley out for 57 after posting a challenging chase of 229 for 1. Amongst the run scorers who retired on 30 were Stevinson (31), Pooler (30), Towle (30), Brindle (32), Murphy (30) and Scanlon (31). Harry Oakes finished with an impressive set of figures in his match winning spell - 2, 0,13, 3.

The match ball was formally presented to Harry by the captain Oliver Towle at the end of match debrief.

Harry said "I will keep this ball very safe, I might never bowl a hat trick again and thus this ball is very special. I was so nervous when I was bowling the third ball that I had to stop and take some deep breaths before releasing it."

Alderley Edge Cricket Club runs there sides at Under 13 level in the Cheshire, South Manchester and North Cheshire League. The boys train at Moss Lane every Monday night thought this season has been severely rain affected and only two matches have taken place so far.

Hat-tricks are very rare and as such are treasured by bowlers. A hat-trick occurs in cricket when a bowler dismisses three batsmen with consecutive deliveries. The deliveries may be interrupted by an over bowled by another bowler from the other end of the pitch or the other team's innings, but must be three consecutive deliveries by the individual bowler.
