Robert Ashworth, a specialist commercial property lawyer and a former senior partner at Pannone has joined forces with London based recruitment specialists King Excell to set up a new venture in professional recruitment under the name of Broadsword Consulting.

Robert will utilise his long standing contacts with fellow professionals across the region to identify specific career opportunities for Partners and senior assistants. He will also assist niche and mid tier firms in strategic planning to meet the challenges of alternative business structures and succession planning.

Robert, 52, is well known in the village. Having been brought up in Macclesfield he returned to live in Alderley Edge in 1989 after working in London for six years. He is married to Tina and has two daughters, Hannah 21 and Milly 19.

Robert departed from Pannone in September 2011, after 25 successful years with them looking after such client's as Chevron Texaco, Hilti, Vodafone, Chloride, Milliken, the Caravan Club and Transport for Manchester.

Five years ago he set up the Alderley Edge office which Pannone announced last week they will be closing to focus on expansion in London.

Robert said "I had spent many fulfilling years at Pannone and thoroughly enjoyed my working life but felt that it was now time for a change. The increased number of lawyers has meant that there is a mismatch between posts and suitable candidates and it is important to identify key people with key abilities that can contribute in terms of quality advice to clients in a manner and style that is valued.

"Having been active in the management of a major firm it is apparent that the role of a recruitment consultant must also add value by way of delivering credible candidates so that busy professionals can spend more time being lawyers than managers.

"My experience of being a practicing lawyer also gives me a perspective of what a firm may need or want but is too busy to see. A degree of experienced objectivity to any issue such as recruitment, succession planning or possible mergers will be beneficial to those subjectively involved."
