Cheshire battered by high winds

High winds are affecting road users across the county this morning.

Mottram Road is currently closed in both directions near Findlow Farm because of fallen trees and the A537 Chelford Road is partially blocked in both directions at the Chelford Roundabout, because of an earlier fallen tree.

Cheshire Police have attended in excess of 15 incidents relating to fallen trees, branches, and debris in the road since 6am today, Thursday 5th January.

The Eastern parts of Cheshire have been particularly affected by the weather. Police and other agencies have also attended reports of fallen trees in Oak Road, Prestbury, School Lane in Congleton, and Ashley Road in Mere this morning.

In Manchester, its tallest skyscraper, the Beetham Tower has been humming in the wind.

The noise from the 551 ft skyscraper has kept many city centre residents awake.

Khalid Lee-Conway (@Phoenixheights) tweeted "I can hear beethan tower whistling. And I'm in bed in piccadilly" and Bert (@BertsBlert) tweeted "Extra-terrestrial noises whirring around central MCR late last night. Apparently it was the wind shaking Beetham Tower... eerie!"

paulosouthwestlad's has posted a video of Beetham Tower Howling in the wind on Youtube.

Police advise motorists to take extra care, to plan ahead and allow plenty of time for their journey whilst driving in the adverse weather conditions.
