Nativity services spreads Christmas cheer

Alderley Edge schools have staged several nativity services for proud parents and grandparents during the past couple of weeks.

The Reception and Key Stage 1 children at Alderley Edge Community Primary School performed a traditional Nativity Service at St Philip and St James' Church this week. They performed to a church packed with parents, grandparents, family and friends who all thoroughly enjoyed the children's beautiful singing and festive atmosphere.

Later the same day, the Key Stage 2 children told the story of the First Christmas through a play called Witnesses which brought home the true meaning of Christmas.

The school orchestra played before and during the service, then at the end of both performances there was a collection for the Francis House Children's Hospice – a charity that the children have chosen to support this Christmas time.

Headteacher Mr Chris Perry said "I am, as always, extremely proud of the achievements of our children but the singing this year was some of the best I have ever heard. It was great to see so many families at the services."

The previous week junior school pupils at Alderley Edge School for Girls got into the festive spirit as they participated in several Christmas nativities.

Nursery and Reception girls performed Shine Star Shine, Year 1 and 2 girls performed Prickly Hay, and the girls in Years 3 to 6 performed A Christmas Dream.

In addition to parents, family and friends, the school was also happy to welcome visitors from Brookview and Cavendish Care Homes. The visitors were helped by Sixth Form girls and enjoyed chocolates during the performance, followed by drink and mince pies made by Food Technology teacher Mrs Leigh.

The girls thoroughly enjoyed the festivities and Mr Lawrence Groves, Headmaster at the school was delighted with the performances and would like to thank all those who attended.
