Volunteers are celebrating after announcing that the Alderley Edge Poppy Appeal has raised a record amount.

A total of £7151.63 has been collected so far, which represents an increase of £426 compared to last year. Many of the donations were 'gift aided' so additional money will be added later in the year.

Jackie Wortley, Poppy Appeal Organiser, said "We'd like to thank everyone who helped out with the street collection on Friday, 11th and Saturday, 12th November which raised £1175.03 especially the local sixth formers from St Ambrose College, Wilmslow High School and Alderley School for Girls. We received a lot of positive comments regarding the number of young people involved.

"We'd also like to thank all the local shops, restaurants, businesses, schools and churches for their support. We sent out over 120 boxes of poppies this year and many including Costa Coffee, Fosters Fish and Chip Shop and the local supermarkets needed refilling more than once."
