A carer from Alderley Edge has won a prestigious Local Hero Award for her hard work and the outstanding service she provides to her elderly clients.
Karen Robinson, 33, was awarded 'Carer of the Year' at the recent Local Hero Awards hosted by radio station Silk 106.9 and supported by Cheshire East Council.
Karen, who works at Home Instead Senior Care, joined other local heroes at Macclesfield Town Football Club for the event which was hosted by Cheshire East Council Mayor, Councillor Roger West.
Her employer Julie Akroyd, who nominated Karen for the award, described Karen as "a truly inspirational person".
She said "No matter rain, wind or chest high snow she has never, ever let a client down. During the worst of the snow in 2010, she took to driving a tractor to make a call to a client and has been known to go out at 4am to have a chat with a client in distress."
Karen who's nickname is Wendy, out of Bob the Builder, was more than a little surprised.
She commented, "I'm so pleased to have won this award. There were so many great finalists, so I still can't quite believe that I won!
"I really love my job and find it so rewarding to care for my elderly clients. I always have a tool box in my car so I can do small repairs, hence the nickname Wendy. It just comes naturally to me, I just love caring and helping people."
