Max Penney, a product of the Alderley Edge Golf Club's highly successful junior section, won the Club Championship on Sunday, 7th August.

In doing so he set a low scoring record for the 36 hole event with gross scores of 71 and 68 for a 139 total. He is also believed to be the youngest winner of the Club Championship.

Max, 18, who lives in Macclesfield and is the son of the club's junior organiser Paul, now has a handicap of 5.

The first round of the competition was combined with the August Monthly Medal, which Max also won.

Runner up in the Club Championship was Gary Johnstone, who was 6 shots adrift from Max.

Jerry Dixon said "The Alderley juniors go from strength to strength; young Tom Lawton, who was third, recently became the club's first scratch player in almost 30 years. Along with his brother's James and Edward, and a host of other promising players, they are making their mark at club and county level."
