A family fun day is being held in Alderley Edge this weekend to raise funds to support projects in Africa.

Organised by the Mothers' Union in the Diocese of Chester, the Celebrate Africa Family Day will be held at Alderley Edge School for Girls on Saturday, August 6th.

There will be displays from several African countries, childrens' activities, a Fairtrade stall, samples of African food, face painting and hair braiding. Entertainment will also be provided by an African choir, mosquito drive, an African drummer, story telling and a Songs of Praise will be held at the end.

Mothers' Union is a worldwide Christian charity whose members in Chester have links with members in South Africa, Namibia, Ghana, Nigeria and Tanzania which prompted them to organise this event, something they have not done before.

Sue Pearson, Action and Outreach Coordinator, said "We want to celebrate the good things of Africa; art, food, music, hospitality, fellowship.

"However, particularly at this time of famine in East Africa, we must give generously to support and encourage those in need. We know that funds go direct to areas of need and are controlled by our local members."

The Celebrate Africa Family Day will take place at Alderley Edge School for Girls on Saturday, August 6th, from 10.30am until 4pm. Entrance is £1 and accompanied children are free.
