Post Office Ltd are proposing to relocate Alderley Edge Post Office across the road to the Co-op at 7-10 The Parade and have announced a public consultation on its proposal.

A Post Office spokesperson said: "For some time this service has been operated on our behalf by a temporary agent and we are pleased to announce that we have been successful in the appointment of a new permanent subpostmaster to operate Post Office services at a nearby location. Our priority is to safeguard Post Office services to the local community in the longer term and the relocation of Alderley Edge Post Office would allow us to maintain access to Post Office services in the area, and to improve existing facilities."

"Customers would benefit from level entry to the premises, low-level facilities for wheelchair users and an on-site convenience store providing the opportunity to carry out a range of shopping under one roof.

"If we decide to go ahead with this move it is expected that it would take place during the summer."

The proposed service is for the same range of services that are currently available with the addition of online lottery facilities and the proposed opening hours are: Monday to Friday 9am until 5.30pm and Saturday 9am until 12.30pm.

The period of public consultation will end on 21st June 2011 and during this time Post Office Ltd welcomes feedback on any issues customers would like it to consider before a final decision is taken on this proposal. They would particularly like your views on the following questions:

  • Do you have any comments about access and facilities at the new location?
  • Are there any local issues specific to Alderley Edge you would like us to consider?

Submissions can be made during the consultation by email, by post to Post Office Ltd, c/o National Consultation Team, PO Box 2060, Watford, WD18 8ZW, or via the Customer Helpline: 08457 22 33 44 or Textphone 08457 22 33 55.

This is excellent news. it would be a sad day if AE lost a great resource and pivotal part of the community ilke the post office. its great news that he Co-Op will be its new base.

Do we know if there are any plans for the old post office location?

Well done to the Co-Op! What a great organisation they are. Its excellent news we get to keep the post office, its the hallmark of any good village to have a post office and would have been awful if it had gone for good.
I guess that the Bubble Room will be interested again in the property?
