Plan for the Alderley Edge May Fair are really coming together and it is shaping up to be a fantastic community event for all the family.

The Alderley Edge May Fair will take place on Saturday 21st May with a procession departing from the Festival Hall at 11 am. So far, over 20 groups have agreed to take part in the parade which will include a whole host of dance groups and marching bands as well as a vintage tractor, fire engine and double decker bus.

Led by a white horse, the parade will march from the Festival Hall to the park where a full range of attractions, stalls, entertainment and refreshments will be on offer.

Entertainment for the day will include; bowling games, crazy golf, mini skittles, a tug of war and fancy dress competitions, Morris dancing, gymnastics displays, Punch n Judy and a clown act.

Amongst the attractions there will be Shetland Ponies, face painting, over 40 stalls selling a variety of crafts and children's fairground rides, including a Thomas the Tank Engine which will be giving children rides around the park.

The more energetic members of the community can start the day with a 5k run through the village, organised by Running Bear, which will finish in the arena where the prizes will be presented.

The event is being organised by local resident Christine Munro, along with Soroptimist International and representatives from local groups and organisations.

Christine told me "The Soroptimists and I are really excited about the event. We are trying to have something on the park for everyone to enjoy and as we receive the booking forms with all the information on them of more and more attractions, games and entertainments it is really thrilling and a bit frightening. We sometimes wonder what we have let ourselves in for!!

"Everyone is working really hard to create a successful and fun filled day for the community.

"I wanted to organise an Alderley Edge Fair because I know how much I looked forward to and enjoyed the Rose Queen Festivals we used to have when I was a child and I thought it would be wonderful to be able to do this again for everyone. But I also wanted to do it because I like a challenge and this is certainly proving to be that!"

Christine added "We are all praying for good weather and hoping that everyone who comes along will have a wonderful day. A day to remember."

So far, they have received £5,500 towards the cost of this community event, which includes a £2,500 grant from Alderley Edge Institute Trust, £1,800 from Grassroots Community Fund and £1,000 from the Emerson Trust Fund.

It sounds like it's going to be a brilliant day - let's hope the May Fair will grow & grow each year and many congratulations to Christine for having the energy & enthusiasm to revive this occasion!! I was just wondering how to get permission to run a stall for the event?
