Vandals strike on Macclesfield Road

Vandals have left their mark on Macclesfield Road.

Somebody has painted "IT'S NOT ABOUT THE SALARY", initially spelt "SALERY" in yellow paint on the actual road. Then about 15 yards further up Macclesfield Road they have also defaced a wall with the message "ELVIS WAS A HERO TO M08".

The graffiti was brought to our attention on Friday, 19th February, by a couple of our readers. We are not sure when the messages were painted, or indeed what they refer to, but we presume it was done during the hours of darkness and probably on Thursday evening.

Cheshire East Council launched a crackdown on graffiti last year. Housing associations as well as water, gas and electricity companies joined forces with Cheshire East to wipe out graffiti by reporting it to the Council.

I have reported this incident to the council's Streetscape team. They aim to remove offensive or racist graffiti, where it is Cheshire East's responsibility, within 2 working days of any sightings or reports. All other reports of graffiti or fly-postings, that are the responsibility of Cheshire East to remove, will be dealt with within 10 working days.

If anyone has any more information about when the graffiti appeared or who Elvis the M08 hero is then please use the comment box below.

Thanks for posting this and asking for information. We own the wall in question so I reported it to the police on Friday morning and they were v. helpful. The writing on the wall actually ends with MOS - I think to say MOST but the spray paint ran out! Anyone got ideas on how best to remove it?!

'Elvis was a hero to most' is part of the lyric in the song 'Fight The Power' by Public Enemy, (1989) - a U.S. Hip-hop group renowned for their politically-charged themes. This reference is an anti-racist response to Mr Presley's alleged bigotry.

I don't know how this is relevant or linked to the other 'message'.
Nor does it help with removal, Im afraid.

Hi Karen, I have spoken with our PCSO Jim Newns about the graffiti today.

He has a graffiti kit and said he'll remove the paint for you this week with the use of chemicals.

Gangsta's on da Edge

Dem junior gangsta's dey been very nortay,
But spellin' it just ain't der forte,
I'm not sayin' I no saint,
But deez jokers can't estimate da required quantities of liquid paint.
Dats why Elvis was a hero to 'mos' instead of most,
Back in da hood how can deez blockheads boast?
Readin' NO; Rightin' NO; Rifmatic NO:
Den dey get seen of by the CPSO.
He got da chemicals.
