Ex marine appeals for help

launch day

An ex Royal Marine is appealing for local residents to help him label 1600 bottles of beer at the Drum & Monkey pub this evening.

Glenn Lowe, 56, who recently retired after being diagnosed with asbestosis, will be walking the Pennine Way to raise £100,000. The money will be divided equally between Help for Heroes, Combat Stress and Hounds for Heroes.

Glenn will be joined by his wife Sarah, dog Blaze and up to 150 volunteers from all over the country when he sets off on 30th May on the 286 mile walk from Edale to Kirk Yetholm -visiting every monument of remembrance on route.

Glenn contacted Robinson's Brewery who agreed instantly to supply a limited edition beer named "Unity and Strength" for the national event.

Glenn said "Every profit from the sale of the beer will go to the three charities and all our walkers are self financed so every penny we raise goes to our charities, and to ensure this, anything that we cannot get for nothing is paid for by Sarah and myself.

"In this batch there are 1600 bottles but demand has grown for them so quickly we will need to discuss another launch, or even a second beer."

Glenn will be at the Drum and Monkey this evening, Thursday February 17th, heading up the labelling of the 1600 bottles, where any help would be much appreciated.

The labelling will be followed by a national launch of the beer at The Cross Keys in Crewe on Monday 28th February where the beer will be traditionally 'Piped' in by a piper.

Anyone wishing to purchase "Unity and Strength" by the bottle or case can email Glenn. or phone him on 01270 662753. Deliveries will begin from 1st March.
