Alderley girls reach Youth Speaks regional final

Lower Sixth girls from Alderley Edge School for Girls won the District Finals of the Rotary Club's "Youth Speaks" public speaking competition held at Winnington Park this week.

The team consisting of Amy Francis, Ayesha Anwar and Tessa Bryant won two of the three individual awards and were given a prestigious place in the Regional Finals.

Amy Francis delivered a talk on "The God Particle" which fascinated the judges. They commented afterwards on her sincerity, clarity and ability to hold the audience on such a difficult subject. Ayesha Anwar won the award for Best Chairperson and Tessa Bryant was given the Best Vote of Thanks.

The girls spoke without notes and in feedback given by the judges, their maturity was commended and the content was called "outstanding".

Mrs Duthie, Director of Studies at the school commented, "The result is very impressive, the overall standard of speakers in the competition was extremely high.

The girls did an excellent job and we wish them the best of luck for the Regional Finals in March."

Alderley Edge School for Girls is sponsored by the Rotary Club Of Alderley Edge and Bollin Valley who wish them well in the regional heats on 13th March.
