The Chancellor of the Exchequer was so impressed with the charitable efforts of school children in Alderley Edge and Wilmslow that he invited them to Downing Street for a VIP tour.
George Osborne entertained pupils representing Alderley Edge Community Primary and each school in Wilmslow at his office in Number 11, after visiting representatives from all the local schools in February.
The visit, which took place prior to the General Election, allowed the now Chancellor to see how money had been raised by the children to fund wells in South Africa as part of the Play Pump project.
Mr Osborne invited the children, two from each local school, to visit him in London, should he secure his seat in Parliament and honoured his promise with an invitation on November 25th.
The children enjoyed a visit to the Churchill War Museum, HM Treasury, the Palace of Westminster and, of course, Downing Street – where they grilled Mr Osborne on his life in Parliament.
Headmaster Chris Perry said: "School Councillors from across the Wilmslow Education Partnership regularly meet to discuss and resolve matters relating to agendas on local, national and international themes. This visit allowed the children to see first hand for themselves the inner workings of our democracy when they visited the Houses of Parliament."
Chris Perry continued to say: "The children thoroughly enjoyed the once in a lifetime opportunity to walk in the footsteps of world leaders when they walked through the front door of 10 Downing Street - a truly memorable moment."
Councillor for the Wilmslow North ward, Jim Crockatt, added: "It is very important that pupils are given the opportunity to see the workings of national government at first hand. I congratulate George Osborne for the invitation to visit Downing Street and thank him on behalf of all pupils especially those from Dean Oaks Primary School with which I have had a long association."
