Come dine on the allotments

A group of four allotment owners in Alderley Edge have come together to run their own version of the TV show Come Dine With Me.

It was Owen Spence's idea to cook for each other using ingredients from their allotments and then judge each other's performance. Owen kicked off the competition with his Caribbean themed Come Dine With Me, serving a starter of ackee and saltfish, followed by Jamaican stew with plantain and finished off with apple crumble.

Louise Mason, who also has an allotment on Chorley Hall Lane, followed with a Come Dine With Me Halloween party on the 30th October. Her menu consisted of spooky soup, creepy curry with rancid rice, followed by frightening fairy cakes & chilling chocolates.

Louise said "We've only done two so far and I am not sure who is doing the next one or when as we are going into the winter months now!"

"We cook and eat on the allotment. I used two camp stoves for mine and Owen used a proper dug out fire in a pit for his cooking stove. We both had about 20 people to cook for so it was more like an 'open shed' Come Dine With Me experience."
