Last month Rev Jane Parry told us about her plans to swap jobs with Andy Baron, the General Manager of the De Trafford Arms - well today was the day they switched roles to see if they could do each other's jobs.

It was an early start for Andy as he stepped in for the vicar and led morning prayers at St. Philip and St. James Church. I caught up with them both at Alderley Edge School for Girls where Andy took the senior school assembly, the theme of which the diversity of people.

Andy then finished off his christian duties by visiting a housebound parishioner, reading the lesson at the mid-week communion service and helping out at the monthly community lunch held in the parish rooms.

Talking about the experience, Andy said "I've really enjoyed it and I've learnt that an awful lot goes on behind the scenes which you don't actually know about. Being a vicar is more than a one day a week job!"

This evening it is the turn of Jane to step in to Andy's shoes as pub landlord, pulling pints behind the bar at the De Trafford Arms and serving the customers properly.

Jane certainly looked very much at home pulling pints, changing the barrel and sampling the beer to ensure it was up to scratch.

She said "It's an experiment to see what life is like from somebody else's perspective. You can never really step in to someone else's shoes but this provides a taster, as well as an opportunity to strengthen links within the community, whilst having fun!"
