Bypass footbridge marks success for rambler's campaign

East Cheshire Ramblers

East Cheshire Ramblers were joined by members of the public on Sunday, October 24th, for a series of extended walks which the group had arranged to celebrate the completion of the Alderley Edge bypass.

Nearly 40 people took the opportunity to continue their walk after reaching the Nether Alderley end of the bypass, on a choice of routes with overall distances of 7, 9 or 12 miles. These extended walks went via Hocker Lane and The Edge before heading back to the car park on Ryley's Lane.

Roger Norton said "The picture above shows the footbridge that has been erected to convey walkers safely over the bypass following a public inquiry in 2005 where the planning inspector agreed with the ramblers' demands for increased safety measures to protect pedestrians."
