Maths success for Alderley Edge girls

mathschallenge

The Junior Maths Team from Alderley Edge School for Girls came first in a Maths Challenge competition held at St. Ambrose School in Hale Barns.

126 teams from over 60 primary schools took part in which teams had to solve some investigative puzzles and put together a poster, a PowerPoint slide show and conduct a maths lesson.

Having reached the final of the competition alongside 24 other teams, the girls had to complete further mathematical investigations, quizzes and computations. The participating teams were then assessed on their approach, ability, team work and mathematical knowledge.

After a tense final session in which presentations were given to an audience of parents and teachers, Alderley Edge School for Girls, namely Ellie Jewitt, Shoko Ito, Lucy Owen and Amelia Ward were triumphant.

Janey Barker, teacher of mathematics at the school expressed her congratulations to all of the girls who took part, “Our girls not only shone mathematically, but conducted themselves impeccably during the competition. I was very proud of them and it was lovely to see them being rewarded for their enthusiasm for maths.”

The girls were each presented with a scientific calculator, a t-shirt and a certificate - plus a fantastic crate of games and investigations worth £250 for all the girls at the school to enjoy.
