At 12.15pm on Wednesday 20 November police were called to reports of a collision on the A34 in Wilmslow.
Officers attended the scene and found a tanker had overturned near on Birrell Way and was leaking onto the carriageway.
There are no reports of any serious injuries, and the contents of the tanker are not believed to be hazardous to the public.
As a result of the collision the A34 is currently closed in both directions between Bollin Valley Roundabout and Prestbury Road.
Recovery work is currently underway; however, the closure is expected to remain in place for several hours.
Local diversions are in place, but there are significant delays in the area and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
