Work is currently underway to help highlight the speed limit on Wilmslow Road, which changed from 40mph when the road was downgraded in 2011 following the opening of the Alderley Edge bypass in November 2010.
Lining and surface dressing works have been taking place on Wilmslow Road to highlight the 30mph limit - which is in place from Whitehall Bridge roundabout - as you come off the A34 bypass - to the entry of the 20mph zone just prior to Brook Lane.
This follows the the installation of four "30" mph signs on the lamp columns along this stretch of road in March 2024 at a cost of £82, which was funded by Alderley Edge Parish Council.
Councillor Craig Browne said "Also pleased that a dropped kerb has been installed just south of the junction with Harden Park. A pedestrian refuge is also due to be installed north of the Harden Park junction, this will take place later in the year."

Here's what readers have had to say so far. Why not add your thoughts below.
2. Red - they are bright red and look absolutely hideous - if someone in the village wanted their shop sign to be greater that 50 font, there would be absolute fury. If I wanted to paint my house red, the kick back would be something else… to paint it like the ‘red light street in Lisbon’ is something else - why have you not consulted anyone???? Completely wrong - I’ve never seen such a mess….
3. The new crossing by ryleys hockey pitch is in the most dangerous place. Hidden from view on the approach to the village - you literally can’t see it until you are by the Merlin
Overall, an absolute waste of time. A solution that is proven not to work and a waste of money (public - no, because you made vita team pay the bill so you they could get planning for - shocking.)
Once again, a local ‘planning team’ that absolutely have now idea what’s going on and what to do to manage such a situation.
Surprised that they are ‘ needed ‘ in the village.
Got to agree with that .
These red monsters look absolutely awful and do nothing to enhance the village or improve compliance. Expensive and hideous
If that traffic area is so dangerous, why didn't they have fixed warning signs by the side of the road on a post, or even yellow crossing signs painted on the tarmac, but to have these huge ugly red areas painted on the road surface is just stupid ... Whoever agreed to this needs their head examined !
