St Philip and St James church is flying it's flag at half mast until the recent round of violence has ended.
Revd Robin Pye said "The flag we normally fly is the diocesan flag - the flag of St George with the symbol for Chester Diocese in the top left hand corner.
"The flag of St George is of course the England flag with associations of national pride and sentimentality. And we know our flag is very similar to the flag of St George and people who see it flying outside our church will naturally assume that this is what it is.
"In recent days we have seen the flag of St George used as a symbol by people intent on bringing racist violence and terror to the streets of England. This is something as a church we lament. We are pray for peace and confident that peace will soon be restored. But until it is, we will fly out flag at half mast in mourning for the peace we have lost."
