As part of their continued involvement in the local community, engineers and chain lads from Birse Civils have repainted the flagpole at St. Philip and St. James Church.
Ian Copeland, from the Allotment Society, requested the help of Birse because Co Todd, the 84 year old church verger who has been painting the flap pole for years with the help of his colleague, wasn't able to paint the 30ft high pole alone after his colleague sadly passed away.
Headed up by Philip Owen, the Bridges Engineer at Birse and Cheshire East Council's Structures Engineer Mike Shore, they managed to get the pole painted and back up in time for the local scouts to raise the flag for St George's day.
Michael Skythe, from the church committee, also helped with the organisation.

Here's what readers have had to say so far. Why not add your thoughts below.
We need to check if we needed the gain permission before painting the play equipment at the park.
We need the following:
Volunteers - Any age are welcome.
Paint : Various Bright Colours - (Must conform to Health and Safety).
Paint brushes and rollers.
Some of the Officers at C/E are away from post (stress etc.) ... perhaps the best contact remaining at C/E is George Broughton who is the 'Parks Development Officer' for C.E ... his e-mail is George.Broughton at cheshireeast.gov.uk and his work phone no. is 01606 271807 ... I'm due to meet him shortly (along with Kriss as rep. of 'friends of the park') in the park, so he knows about the pressure within the village to get things moving in the park ... I don't know whether he can give permission, but if not he should know where to go for permission ... maybe C.E. would provide paint etc. OR if we 'shout' loud enough, he may be able to get the painting done by C.E. (you never know!).
p.s. anyone got an 'in' with Birse Civils?
Join me if you wish.
See you on the 14th, in the park, anyhow; on which subject, there was a group of three 'officers' walking the park this a.m. possibly in preperation for meeting you and I to discuss park improvements!
