Pownall Hall School are kick-starting 2023 with a brand new room for 3 year olds within their Early Years setting, led by their highly experienced team.

Due to the amazing success of their Robin Room, who celebrated their first birthday on the 10th January and currently require 18 months' notice to secure a full time place, Pownall Hall have launched their brand new Heron room to ensure that, following an inspiring level of growth through 2022, group sizes remain small.

Based upon Pownall's Hygge approach that runs seamlessly from the Robin Room, to the Owl Room and now through the Heron Room into Kindergarten, the Heron Room is that wonderful 'home-from-home' environment that we all know and love at Pownall.

Georgia Flynn, Head of EYFS, said "It has been a privilege to work with a blank canvas and transform it into the warm and cosy learning environment that has become our Heron Room. Seeing our children at home and making full use of the provision is so exciting.

"Your children's key persons will work closely with you and your children to ensure they are given the best possible foundation to their Pownall Journey, continuing the beautiful approach that our Woodland Nursery gives the children. We follow the Danish approach called Hygge – bringing warmth, simplicity and wellbeing to the forefront of life, living in the moment and enjoying every minute. We cannot wait to meet you and welcome you all to Herons."

Learning opportunities are tailored to children's individual interests and needs whilst providing the next steps in their learning ensuring they are appropriately challenged. Herons will begin to become even more independent in readiness for the next stage in their journey along their Pownall Pathway, interacting daily with Kindergarten children and teachers, creating a seamless transition when their time comes to move up.

David Goulbourn, Headmaster, said "We believe that if teaching is to be effective for our youngest children it must advance them on the way to independence. Our child centred, Hygge approach does that beautifully.''

Pownall children love playing outdoors, and Herons will continue to spend plenty of time enjoying the beautiful 8 acres of Pownall grounds come rain or shine, both within their dedicated outdoor area with mud kitchen, trim trail, and climbing equipment, but also visiting the Forest School, wildlife pond, chickens, and many other areas across the grounds.

Each week, Herons will also explore many of Pownall Hall's specialist-led sessions including languages, music, yoga, PE and Forest School.

The doors opened on Monday 16th January, welcoming both existing children from Owls and brand new pupils to the school.
