Students at Alderley Edge School for Girls celebrate outstanding A Level results

Alderley Edge School for Girls is celebrating outstanding A Level results for its Upper Sixth students with 28% of grades awarded being an A*, 66% of students receiving an A* - A and 81% of students receiving A* to B.

This year, there have been a number of subject successes. As an Apple Distinguished School, the school is delighted that all students studying Computing achieved A* grades. There was also a clean sweep of 100% of A*s achieved in both German and French. 74% of students studying STEM subjects achieved A*- A, shining a light on the many benefits of an all-girls' education.

Students studying A Level Economics, Further Maths, Geography, Government & Politics and Physics all received A* and A grades. It is the first year that Alderley Edge School for Girls has run Government & Politics as an A Level subject so the school is particularly proud of this statistic.

The school is also celebrating a number of individual successes including Sixth Form students, Amy Barnes and Charlotte MacDonald who both achieved 3A*s and an A. Amy will be reading Economics and Management at Bristol and Charlotte has accepted a place to read Computer Science at York.

On receiving her results, Amy said: "I am so relieved! I'm so happy and am looking forward to studying at Bristol. Charlotte added: "A massive thank you to all my teachers, I am so happy!"

Sarah Rhodes who achieved A* in Biology, A* in Chemistry and an A in Psychology will be reading Veterinary Medicine at Nottingham University and Sarah Cook will also read Veterinary Medicine at Nottingham University after she achieved A* Biology, A* Chemistry and A in Physics.

Alderley Edge School for Girls Headmistress, Mrs Nicola Smillie, said: "We couldn't be more delighted with this year's A Level results. We send our huge congratulations to all the Year 13 students who have shown a tireless dedication to their studies as well as an outstanding commitment to the many enrichment opportunities which they have supplemented during their time in the Sixth Form. This year's Year 13 have been Young Enterprise finalists, The national winners of the School's Mock Trials Competition and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards have also been achieved in the last two years."

Head of Sixth Form at Alderley Edge School for Girls, Miss Lynda McConville, added: As a school we are all thrilled with this year's results. We thank our dedicated teaching staff who have supported each and every student both pastorally and academically to achieve such great success. This year's cohort have shown exceptional resilience as they have overcome many obstacles that the pandemic threw their way such as missing sitting their GCSEs examinations. To achieve such an outstanding set of results really is a testament to the joint effort of both the school and the students.
