After two months gas company finally returns to clear up mess left on London Road

Having abandond the area they had dug up on London Road more than two months ago, Cadent Gas returned this week to sort out the mess they had left outside the Bubble Room.

Councillor Craig Browne, who has been chasing the company for two months to sort the problem out, said "Whilst I was in the village earlier, I took the opportunity to speak to the site foreman, who explained that the issue had been caused when the gas pipes were relaid back in 2003.

"At the time, the adjacent water pipe was compromised as a result of the works, leading to an unseen egress of water underground. Over the intervening 19 years, the water has washed away the earth and this led to a sink hole appearing."

Cadent Gas have assured Councillor Browne that will return next week to carry out the necessary repairs to the water pipe.

Councillor Craig Browne added "A further team will then come to backfill and resurface the road, with all works due for completion by Friday 5th August."

Let us wait and see if it is all finished on Friday, I am not placing all my hope that it will happen!

So there has been an undetected water leak for 19 years?

“Cadent Gas have assured Councillor Browne that will return next week to carry out the necessary repairs to the water pipe.” That doesn’t sound correct- Cadent do not work on water pipes!

Meanwhile we face a water shortage possible hose pipe bans while the Utilities companies are making billions and not addressing the delays in repairs then coming back as the repair etc is not sorted or resurfaced! Temporary traffic lights and delays and endless ongoing underground leaks and a lack of workforce to repair them all to cut costs. It is beyond a joke all of it. Build some new reservoirs as well! All about profit..and nothing else.

The hole, the mess, in fact the WHOLE MESS was still present and correct when we strolled past on the evening of Sunday 7th August. I do not believe anyone from Cadent was working there as promised on Friday. The poor Bubble Room
