This weekend the Alderley Edge May Fair returns to its traditional place in the calendar, and festivities will kick-off on Friday teatime with a five-a-side football tournament and live music from four local bands. The street food stalls and bar will be open from 5pm.

On Saturday, a day of family fun starts with a parade down London Road, featuring local schools and community groups, the town crier, marching bands, children and animals.

The May Queen, Lyla aged 7 will travel in a carriage pulled by miniature ponies along with her attendants Ember 5 and Harris 3 - all of whom are grandchildren of Christine Munro who re-started the May Fair in 2011 and continues to inspire the organisers.

On the park the entertainment begins when the parade arrives including artisan market stalls, funfair rides, freshly cooked food, hot and cold drinks, live music on two stages, arena activities including dancing ponies, a samba workshop, vintage DJ sets, circus clowns and the village dog show.

For the first time, the entertainment will continue into the evening, finishing with a Madonna and Lady Gaga tribute act on the main stage.

Committee chairperson Paul Marshall said "We've tried to involve all generations again and I hope that there will be plenty of smiles in the village. And as always, it will be free to enter.

"Every year we are so pleased by the support that the local community give us by turning out to, and we hope that we can carry on being a platform for local talent and good causes."
