Pownall Hall School launches new nursery provision for children from 6 months

Pownall Hall School is launching a new Nursery provision in January 2022 for babies and children aged 6 months to 2 years. Housed within a purpose designed building, the new 'Nest Room' is nestled within the school's 8 beautiful acres of grounds, celebrating its natural environment and nature itself.

The new Woodland Nursery 'Nest Room' has been designed to create a positive, enabling environment with designated areas for the children's needs. It comprises two main rooms, one for sensory exploration and physical development and a second room for quiet time, relaxation and sleeping.

Within the 'active' room, the space has been designed so that the children have the freedom to move and explore the environment with their emergent physical abilities. There will be provisions to allow children the time and space to develop naturally, to clamber up and down, over and under and to stimulate a sense of balance.

Each day, the children will be met with opportunities to take part in rich sensory activities such as sand and water play, which will provide curiosity and learning. There will be child-height wall fixtures so that the children can pull themselves up and interact with objects that they can pull, push, twist, and touch to allow for cognitive learning as well as fine and gross motor skills.

In the 'relaxation and sleeping room', the lighting and furnishings will provide a safe and tranquil setting. Fairy lights, mood lighting and purifying air filters will relax and soothe and will create an ambiance where babies and children can wind down their sensory activity, sleep and process the day's learning.

The outdoors will play a huge part in the Nest's environment and the garden will allow the children to be healthy and active and to immerse themselves in the wonder of nature. The garden will include water features, plants as well as the opportunity to grow flowers and vegetables. There will be structures to climb on and explore, and spaces that encourage socialisation such as a mud kitchen and messy play.

Headmaster, David Goulbourn, said: "We are delighted to expand our already hugely successful Early Years and open our doors to younger children and babies. We have listened to our current parent body and the wider community and the decision to provide a setting for younger children, so that they too could access our excellent Pownall education, was something that we very much wanted to provide.

"Throughout the Nest, we have used the highest quality Nursery fixtures, fittings, and equipment available and have designed the Nursery in a way so that the children have the optimum emotional and physical nourishment, sensory stimulation and the very best quality sleep and rest.

"The 'Nest Room' staff have been selected as they all provide the excellent qualities we look for here at Pownall Hall such as being warm and caring and have a deep understanding and love of children and their development."

The Nest staff will take a holistic approach and will put equal focus on the children's social emotional needs as well as their physical needs. The room will offer uninterrupted play, the freedom to explore and will facilitate learning opportunities at every turn.

The new Nest Nursery will be open from January 2022 and will open from 7.30am to 6pm all year round with just a one week closure during the Christmas period. To view, book your child's place or discuss your requirements in further detail, please call Pownall Hall School on 01625 523141
