Jonathan Bamford 'extremely proud' to be honoured with OBE

Jonathan Bamford

An Alderley Edge resident who spent his whole career trying to ensure our personal information is looked after has been named in the Queen's New Year Honours List 2020.

Jonathan Bamford was recognised with an OBE for services to Data Protection.

Jonathan, who is a regular reader of alderleyedge.com, has lived in the village for ten years and shares four grown up children with his wife Catherine.

He worked at the Information Commissioner's Office since it was first established in Wilmslow 34 years ago and held the position of Director of Regulatory Strategy before retiring in January 2020.

Jonathan said: "I am extremely proud to receive this honour but it is also a tribute to all those who have worked hard to further data protection regulation at the ICO over the years.

"It's a reflection of the importance of data protection to our modern lives and recognition of the many thousands of people who, in their jobs, work so hard to protect personal data every day."

Well done , Jonathan !! An amazing achievement !! I’m sure your mum , Cathy and the girls are very proud of you and rightly so !! Jonathan has been a great friend to us during this turbulent time , ferrying us about picking up medication and shopping . This award is thoroughly deserved , not only for his services to Data Protection but , in our minds anyway , for being an all-round lovely person. Every good wish from me , Charlie and the mad pooch xxx
