Early Years Education is a passion that lasts a lifetime.
This is Miss Earl's 25th year at Pownall Hall School Nursery, she launched it and she is still ringing in the changes in striving for continued excellence.
"Teaching in the Early Years is a very special and specialist role. You have to have expertise, experience and above all else, passion! To me this means being devoted to children and their development, being open to learning new ways of teaching and being with children and being an advocate for best outcomes for children," says Miss Earl.
Mrs Michelle Speight, an experienced member of the team herself, has witnessed and embraced the changes she has seen during her 21 years at the Nursery, and now enjoys her job more than ever! "The transformation is incredible! The children who enter are amazed by the environment on offer to them. We have definitely seen the huge impact this has had on easing their transition into the setting."
Miss Earl has instigated and implemented a list of new approaches and initiatives at Pownall Nursery to be proud of, a selection of which include:
• Instigating a Hygge inspired environment, bringing in the Danish approach of warmth, simplicity and wellbeing.
• Introducing the theory of natural resources and loose parts, leading to high levels of creativity and imagination.
• Successfully implementing In the Moment Planning, following children's interests in play and allowing the adults to prioritise the time they spend with the children to interact with them, by talking, listening and responding.
• Introducing Forest School and developing sessions, from Nursery through to Year 2, encouraging children to reconnect with nature.
• Securing Pownall the title of Muddy Puddle Flagship School, flying the flag for excellence in outdoor learning.
Pownall Hall School are excited as ever about the continued development and future of the Nursery with such a dedicated and professional team! Miss Earl loves the autonomy she is given to continue to make excellence a habit at Pownall Nursery, "I absolutely love moving practice forward and am so proud of our amazing nursery environment. We have created something truly magical here!"
From Nursery, our children continue their journey within our amazing Kindergarten. Set in its own bespoke buildings, it is surrounded by extensive grounds that enable the continuation of learning through exploration and play. Our Pownall children build upon the strong foundation of skills to further develop their curiosity and creativity in the EYFS, exploring the outdoors while beginning to take part in more structured lessons that complement the natural, environmental, curiosity, exploration approach. "The Pre-Prep section of Pownall Hall School is truly an exciting place to be, where children have so much fun that they don't even realise that they are learning so much! The infant children have full access to all the wonderful facilities and beautiful extensive grounds, so pupils as young as Reception can become real scientists in our Science lab and feel adventurous in our magical Forest School." In the Pre-Prep and Preparatory phases, children go on to further enhance these skills through our broad curriculum, subject specialist teaching and learning values. Curiosity is supported by critical thinking, justification and reasoning as our pupils undertake scientific inquiry in our bespoke science lab. Confidence and self-expression are encapsulated in our music and performing arts lessons, enabling children to perform in our magical and newly refurbished, Pownall Theatre. Our extensive grounds are used to promote Education for Social responsibility, with pupils using their voice and skills to care for the environment, take part in charitable fundraising and be strong advocates of making a positive difference to the world.
