Cricket: Fluck hundred closes Alderley's season with a win

AECC 12th September

An entertaining century by Ed Fluck helped Alderley Edge CC First XI close their 150th anniversary season with victory over Timperley by 82 runs at Moss Lane on Saturday. After winning the toss and electing to bat first the Alderley order compiled a number of steady partnerships with opener Sam Perry notching 26 to get the innings moving. Ed foster struck 45 from number three in a partnership of 67 with Fluck to continue the momentum as the Timperley bowlers struggled to impose any pressure on the Alderley batsmen. Fluck continued to punish the Timperley attack bringing up his hundred as part of an 82 run partnership with Richard Wilkinson (27 not out) which helped Alderley close on 224-5 from their 40 overs. Opening bowler Dominic Ashling claimed 3-44 as the pick of Timperley's attack.

An opening burst of two wickets in two balls from Chris Sanders saw Alderley carry the momentum into the second innings with the visitors reeling at 12-2 in the early stages. Opening batsman Furqan Shafiq survived a couple of chances as he threatened to make things uncomfortable for the hosts with a number of eye catching shots in reaching 38 before holing out to the long on boundary where Dan Fesmer took a smart catch to give Richard Wilkinson one of 4 scalps and leave the hosts on 98-5. 25 from Ed Galley and 28 from Glinoj Cherian helped steady things for Timperely but Fesmer's spell of 3-12 from 5.1 overs blew away the lower order to bowl out the visitors for 142 with over 5 overs left and hand Alderley the win.

The result meant Alderley finished third in the Cheshire Premier League East Division, 3 points behind division winners Didsbury, but left to rue two cancelled games with 8 points potentially on offer for Charlie Reid's men. Didsbury fell to eventually winners Neston in two T20 matches played on the Wirral on Sunday.

Alderley Edge's Second XI also finished the season on a high with a 53 run win at Marple on Saturday. After losing the toss Alderley were asked to bat first, chalking up 188-9 from their 40 overs on the back of 50 from opener Henry Stevinson and 74 from number 3 Joey Chong, Greg Marsland the pick of Marple's bowlers with 4-38. 71 from Marple opener James Massey formed the bulk of the home side's total as Alderley struck regularly in the second innings to keep the hosts' reply in check before a superb spell of 4 wickets for 7 runs off 3 overs from Archie Vaughan mopped things up for the visitors.

Alderley Edge's Third XI made it a clean sweep of wins for the weekend with a big 98 run win at Grappenhall. Winning the toss and batting first Alderley posted 219-3 from their 40 overs with opener Archie Vaughan notching 42 and skipper Will Valentine thumping 88 from just 78 deliveries including 9 fours and 4 sixes. Alderley took control with the ball in the second innings striking regularly to prevent the hosts' from gaining any momentum with only opener Stephen Dickson making an impact with 31 from the top of the order. Ashray Bhamidipati was the stand out for the visitors with the ball taking 3-26 as Alderley closed the game out with over 3 overs remaining. Victory helped Alderley's young side consolidate a strong second place finish in Division B behind winners Didsbury.
