Guides help make village bloom

Alderley Edge Guides have been busy supporting the village's entry into Britain in Bloom by making planters to place outside the Scout Hut on Talbot Road.

In March the girls took part in the Wilmslow Rotary Swimathon and raised £90. They donated some of their proceeds to Sports Relief and kept £50 to buy planters, compost and plants to create a display to place outside the Alderley Edge Scout Hall.

The Guides planned their colour scheme and selection of plants and bought them at a plant sale at Alderley Methodist Church. Seven planters were prepared in May and now that they are flowering have been placed outside the Scout Hall.

Judy Povey from Alderley Edge Guides said "Alderley Edge Guides are really pleased to contribute to Alderley Edge in Bloom. Last year the Guides made bird boxes which are still on display around the village and so wanted to try something different this year."

Really great to see local community groups get behind the Alderley Edge in Bloom entry to the 2018 Britain in Bloom competition.
Alderley Edge in Bloom now have a website containing lots of information about the group activities and contact details if anyone would like to join the volunteer crew to either help with planting or litter picking to beautify Alderley Edge.
