Organisers are promising to provide a social event for the village to remember as this year's Alderley Edge May Fair will take place on the same day as the Royal Wedding.
Now in its 8th year, the ever popular event will be held on Saturday, May 19th - clashing with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding as well as the FA Cup Final.
As per usual, celebrations on the Saturday will kick off the May Fair parade through the village centre with children being encouraged to take part dressed as princes and princesses, or brides and grooms. Additionally a number of village businesses have indicated that they would like to decorate a float, so they are looking for some trailers or flat-bed trucks if anyone in the community can help.
In the park people will be invited to enjoy the Royal Wedding together as it will be shown on 15m giant screen where caterers, coffee stalls and a licensed bar will all be open in time for the wedding build-up.
Elsewhere, the fairground will swing into action during the afternoon, the National Festival Circus will put on three performances throughout the day and crowds can enjoy the live music and dance performances on the stage.
Additionally, families can take a stroll through the park to find the annual dog show, zorb balls, hockey and cricket games, inflatable slides, a ferris wheel, local artisan traders and family entertainment in every corner.
Paul Marshall, Chairman of the Alderley Edge May Fair Committee, said "Our main focus this year is to encourage the local and wider community to visit the village - not just the May Fair on the park but also the traders in the village. Over the course of the day we would love to see more movement of people throughout the village to promote everything that we have to offer."
For the third consecutive year, the Alderley Edge May Fair build up will begin with the May Fair Dance which will takes place on Saturday May 5th, featuring the Swing Commaders at the Festival Hall. Tickets are available for £15.00, and enquiries can be sent to [email protected].
This will be followed by a weekend of celebration beginning on Friday 18th May with an evening of music and sport including a bowling competition and a 5K fun run which is open to all, with the route following pathways and lanes heading out towards Welsh Row. Runners are invited to register online and all funds raised will go to the East Cheshire Hospice. Additionally local companies will also compete for a 5 a side trophy which will take the form of a mini World Cup so spaces are limited, but still available.
During the sport, the audience will be entertained with live music with the stage providing a platform for local young performers to experience a crowd. The organisers welcome any enquiries from people interested in performing.
Paul Marshall added "We hope that the party will continue on London Road into the evening, and I am sure that the local traders are planning a few surprises for the after-fair party.
"Businesses in the village and the Parish Council have been very supportive, so we hope to make the the 2018 May Fair an event to remember."
