Bypass still ahead of schedule despite snow

As part of the ongoing works for the Alderley Edge and Nether Alderley Bypass the new railway bridge was installed over Christmas. During this time works took place 24 hours a day in order to avoid penalty clauses and return the line to full working order within the tight deadlines.

A spokesman from Birse informed us “The installation went according to plan, the bridge went in on time and with no complications."

With the worst of the weather hopefully behind us, the next priority for Birse is progressing with the three road bridges which are key to the programme.

The Birse spokesman confirmed “The weather has delayed the job by about two weeks, but we still plan to finish the project ahead of schedule.”

Excellent news about the bridge - we thought the weather might have been a hindrance. Still a shame that when the bypass is complete, most of the M6-bound traffic will continue to thunder down Ryleys Lane, past the schools and church, due to the lack of egress from the bypass to the Holmes Chapel road.
