Measures to improve driver behaviour in the village

In a recent speed checks in Ryley’s Lane Rebecca Woolley, the Police Community Support Officer for Alderley Edge, and a colleague stopped fifteen cars for speeding in just 45 minutes.

“On this occasion we simply pulled them over to point out that they were breaking the limit and talk to them. They were all apologetic and said they would pay more attention in future,” explained Rebecca.

She said “Road safety is an important issue here, we have three schools in Alderley Edge and they are all close together. Drivers who are speeding and ignoring other road regulations threaten the safety of the children and other people.”

There was a similar response to a much bigger operation in Alderley Road involving Police Officers, P.C.S.Os and personnel from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service. Drivers were stopped for not wearing seat belts or for using mobile phones. On that occasion they had the choice of watching a safety DVD instead of facing fines and penalty points.

Rebecca told us “I want to keep reminding people that they need to put safety first. We will target the roads where safety is causing particular concern. At times I will just be talking to drivers, but on other occasions Police Officers will be there as well and drivers who break the law will face fines and points.”
