The Lunchtime Concert at Alderley Edge Methodist Church has a particularly local emphasis this month.

Organist and Director of Music at St. Bartholomew's Parish Church, Philip Underwood, will be performing on Wednesday, 17th February and the concert is raising money for 8-year-old Max Bailey who has scoliosis (a curved spine) and his family are desperately raising money to enable him to have life-changing therapy in America.

Philip's recital should appeal to all tastes, including well-known classical pieces by Bach, Handel and Widor, as well as more modern items such as "The Pink Panther" by Henry Mancini, "Star Wars" by John Williams, and a wedding medley composed by Philip Underwood himself.

English composer, organist and teacher Philip Underwood studied at the Royal Northern College of Music where his organ teachers included Ronald Frost and Dame Gillian Weir and in 1991 Philip gained the degree of Master of Music at Liverpool University.

Philip has performed extensively throughout Britain and abroad. Notable venues have included Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, Chester Cathedral and Coventry Cathedral.
In 2007 he participated in the Second Annual Festival of New Organ Music in London and he was awarded a composition prize in the 2008 Alienor Harpsichord Competition. Philip was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 2006.

Since December 2013, Philip has been Organist and Director of Music at St Bartholomew's Parish Church where he has established a monthly organ recital series as well as arranging a number of other concerts and recitals. He is also developing the choir through the introduction of choral scholarships for young singers.

The performance commences at 1pm and will last approximately 45 minutes. Admission is by programme at the door, priced £5. Light lunches, charged separately, are available from 12 noon.

Further information is available on 01625 584410 or from the Church Office on 01625 586713.
