Up to £5000 to be spent reviewing car parking options

Alderley Edge Parish Council has agreed to spend up to £5000 on pre-planning assessments, costings and layouts of potential parking solutions for the village.

The councillors voted unanimously to approve this proposal at their meeting on Monday, 14th December, but there was no discussion at the meeting about what this work would involve and the options being considered.

Speaking after the meeting, Councillor Geoff Hall explained "Initial expenditure is substantially less than this sum and is being used to draw up car park layout drawings and initial costings. The Parish Council intends to share this information with residents of the village via a newsletter to be distributed shortly.

"The Parish Council then intends to engage with the village in a public consultation process which will start with a public meeting at the Methodist Church on the evening of Thursday 14th January and a display set up in the Library around the same time for those who are unable to attend the public meeting. We are then proposing a further meeting on Thursday 11th February to share the feedback we have received."

Can I ask that the consultation is also done online in some sort of formal way ,is all the information is published and comments actively sought ; perhaps using Alderleyedge.com. Not everyone has time to attend meetings and it's important to get wide input and support , and it is 2015 .

The Parish Council Newsletter will be posted electronically on the Parish Council website to coincide with the distribution by volunteers of paper copies to households around as much of the village as we can reach. We are planning to do this between Christmas and New Year. We shall also be sending an electronic copy to Lisa for publication on alderleyedge.com.

We shall also put up a display in the Library, coinciding with the time of the public meeting. A fuller report on the findings and conclusions of the Parking Survey will also be posted online ahead of the meeting - as a draft document for discussion - and once again also sent to Lisa.

It would be great to be able to set up a formal online survey (eg via Survey Monkey, Zoha or other medium) for the benefit of those who do not have time to get to meetings.
The thing is - as unpaid part-timers with our own businesses and other activities to take care of - we also have very very limited time. As I hope everyone now understands, we already have our hands very full - both with Parking and completing the Medical Centre and Festival Hall.

If however there is anyone who has relevant skills and who would like to come forward to help us set up a formal online survey, then we will be delighted to accept their help.

@Geoff If you require any help with a link from the pc website to an online form to trap comments or answers to pre-defined questions let me know.

The resulting data could be sliced and diced at admin level or summary data published via the same link.

I believe Ruth has my email address from previous contact.

Hi Pete,
your brief comment 'Frank, Duncan'. May I take it to be a comment on how frank and open I am and how readily I consult peple?

To be serious: if there is to be an assessment, I assume that it will be an assessment of the various plans which the P.C.have come up with? If so, since the good citizens of Aldeley Edge will be paying for the assessment, may we please have a list of the plans to be asessed, before they go out to be assessed?

Then when the assessment is complete, may we please have a sight of the complete assessment, rather than either a summary or a redacted version?

Lastly, if there is to be an online survey, please let the public have an input into the wording of the questions to be posed; to negate any possible comments on bias.

@Jonathan Savill, thank you so much for your offer of help. I have passed on your contact details as requested.

Your willingness to help reflects the huge amount of assistance we have received from our supporters, who have helped in drain surveys, street light surveys and street sign cleaning / clearing surveys. Our latest newsletter has been distributed by Councillors and supporters together.

If anyone else would like to be added to our list of supporters please email me at and I will include you in future requests for help.

Thanks again to all.

Ruth

What do you mean by "our supporters" my comments and other responses are simply from people who live in the village wanting the best for our village?

Paul, sorry for any confusion.

A good number of parishioners offered to help us in whatever way we needed. We are always glad of help. We have a list of email addresses of people who have said they are willing to help, and who have proved their worth a time or two already. Many thanks to them, and any others who wish to get involved just let us know.
Cheers, Ruth
