Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to more than 80 incidents between midday and midnight on Thursday, 5th November, and issued a raft of safety advice to people across the county to make sure that they stayed out of harm's way.

Amongst the incidents they attended was bonfire which was getting out of control in Lacey Green. One crew from Wilmslow attended to the fire at 6.15pm and used a hose reel jet to put it out.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Mark Cashin, said: "As with previous years, Bonfire Night was a busy time for firefighters and control staff, however the work we do in advance alongside our partners continues to make a difference and reduce the number of incidents.

"We don't want to stop people from enjoying themselves, however we do want to keep people safe as they enjoy what should be a fun family event. We know all too well the devastating impact the misuse of fire and fireworks can have and so are committed to doing all we can to prevent it.

"I would like to thank everyone who took our advice and attended an organised display rather than putting on their own."

With more bonfire events being planned for the weekend the Service continues to urge people to take care to keep themselves and their families safe by attending organised display.

See our events calendar for details of the local bonfire and firework displays taking place over the weekend.
