Lunchtime Concert marks 10th Anniversary

Alderley Edge Methodist Church celebrated 10 years of monthly Lunchtime Concerts today, Wednesday 15th October, with a recital by students from Chetham's School of Music Manchester.

The celebration cake was ceremoniously cut by Marjorie Young, who first suggested organising the concerts in 2004.

Today's concert was the 89th Wednesday concert, and monies raised will be donated to Oxfam as part of the Oxjam Music Festival, and to Barnabus, the Christian Homeless charity based in Manchester.

The students performing were (l to r in the photo) George Warren (organ), August Janonyte (violin), George Herbert (trumpet), Edward Holmes (violin), Pip Elmer (oboe) and staff accompanist Elena Nalimova.

Jean Walker said "The concert was really uplifting, starting with the trumpet and finishing with the majestic sounds of our wonderful church organ. The audience numbered 117, and they were thrilled by the choice of music and the high standard of performance."

The Lunchtime Concerts have raised over £21,000 for deserving charitable organisations since October 2004.
