Local lads gear up for charity banger rally

Four local lads are taking part in this year's Dumball Rally, travelling thousands of miles across Europe and Africa in an old banger car which has seen better days.

The dumball is a test of endurance completed in a week to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Robert Topping (36) from Wilmslow, Chris Smith (53) from Alderley Edge, Nick Hobin (37) from Wilmslow and Paul Mower (32) from Altrincham will be driving in an old pimped up stretch limo, which they purchased for £400. This will be spray painted by a graffiti artist to look like a disco train and a mobile disco will be inserted.

The Soul Team, complete with their fancy dress outfits, will set off from Brighton Beach on May 23rd and make their way across France and Spain to the Sahara Desert.

Robert Topping said "A friend who started the event a few years ago, sadly, lost a son to cancer and before he passed they decided to travel across Europe in an old banger worth less than £400. Since then the event has gone from strength to strength and raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for the charity."

"This is the first time we have all done it together and aim to raise £5000 for the charity. We really are determined to raise funds and awareness for the charity as we have seen the great benefits it offers to those diagnosed with the disease."

As part of their fundraising efforts, the Soul Team will be hosting a charity night at Wilmslow Rugby Club on May 10th starting at 7.30pm.

There will be Live Music from local talent, Liam McClair, a DJ, charity auction, charity raffle and surprise guests. Prizes include signed memorabilia, a two week Florida villa, vouchers for local restaurants and more.

For entry please show proof of a minimum £5 donation by texting SOULTRAIN55 and the amount to 70070. You can also support the Soul Team by donating online via their JustGiving page.
